Former Attorney Indicted for Unauthorized Practice of Law

Wednesday, January 05 2005 12:10

A Burlington County Grand Jury returned a 1-count indictment charging A. David Dashoff, age 55, former attorney, Cherry Hill, New Jersey with Unauthorized Practice of Law, a crime of the 4th degree. The matter was referred to the Prosecutors Office by the state Office of Attorney Ethics for possible criminal charges.

The New Jersey Supreme Court permanently disbarred the defendant, a former attorney, on October 22, 1998 after a disciplinary proceeding. The Supreme Court held that the defendant would be disbarred for gross neglect, lack of diligence, conduct involving dishonesty and conduct prejudicial to administration of justice.

The indictment charges that between April 2001 and July 2003 the defendant engaged in the unauthorized practice of law in Moorestown and/or Willingboro townships in New Jersey. The charge stems from a real estate transaction wherein the defendant represented himself to be an attorney. In addition the defendant illegally prepared real estate documents for an unnamed couple that intended to purchase a home in Willingboro N.J.

If convicted on this charge the defendant faces a maximum sentence of 18 months in state prison and a $10,000 fine. No additional court proceedings have been scheduled.

A warrant has been issued for his arrest. Bail has not been set as of this time.
