New Mexico Warns About Real Estate Scam

Tuesday, July 24 2007 05:01

New Mexico consumers could be receiving calls from American Property Service offering to buy land and property. A property owner reported a call from American Property Service, offering to buy her land located in Valencia County, West Mesa and East Valencia County, New Mexico. The caller proposes a very good price, asks the consumer if the price is negotiable and states American Property Service will pay the closing costs. The caller also tells the land owner if the property is sold without American Property Services involvement, the property owner pays no fees.

The property owner is then connected with a "Supervisor" to confirm what has been stated and reveals when the deal is final, it will be recorded. The "Supervisor" says action will not be taken until papers are signed. The "Supervisor" states the fees, in the instance described above, totaled $2,750.00, and a credit card number is requested.

New Mexico property owners are encouraged not to give out any personal information, including credit card numbers, or to verify/confirm any personal information to anyone you do not know and trust.

If you have been contacted by American Property Service with this or similar offers, please contact the New Mexico Attorney General Office at 1-800-678-1508.
