MD AG Sues Foreclosure Services Provider

Thursday, November 08 2007 04:21

Michael K. Lewis, Earnest Lewis, Cheryl Lynn Brooke, Winston Thomas, and two companies, In the House Technologies based in Upper Marlboro and Cornerstone Title & Escrow based in Laurel were sued by Maryland Attorney General Douglas F. Gansler in Baltimore City Circuit Court, Maryland, for alleging violating numerous laws in the course of providing services to homeowners who were facing foreclosure.

The complaint alleges that the defendants market their services to homeowners who are facing foreclosure or are in foreclosure, falsely promising that they can help save the consumers’ homes. Instead of helping homeowners retain title to their homes, the defendants attempt to take title and then strip the equity out of the properties by charging the homeowners numerous undisclosed fees.

After the defendants purportedly take the title to the homes, they charge the homeowners rents that are substantially higher than their previous mortgage payments. As a result, the homeowners find it exceedingly difficult to rebuild their credit and save amounts sufficient to retain their homes. The scheme results in homeowners losing both their homes and the vast majority of equity they had accumulated.

The complaint seeks to stop the defendants' unlawful practices and impose fines for violations of the Protection of Homeowners in Foreclosure Act and the Consumer Protection Act. It also was filed to ensure that the original homeowners retain title to their homes and to provide restitution for homeowners who were harmed by the defendants' actions.

title agancys are given to much power with out having to be linsanced in NY. In my case a title company changed my deed into some one elses name, with out power of atterny, a bad copy of my drivers linsance, a copy of my husband's death certifate, with out the state steal, plus a false buy out document, notterys and a crazy storey.
The notery desapaired on the investergater, and has not answered the linsance burial. My distect atterny office claims this is legal. I had three hand writing experts check all the documents how say the hand writing is not mine, but I'm fighting in court with this man's finance company, the lawyer how did the settlement with out me there, the titlement agent, and everyone else how had to do with this. The so call owner tried to flip the house, the finance company is trying to get promison to auction the house off and I'm going to be in the street with out anything. I'm a widow on SS. trying to fight back. The settlement documents has differen figures from the settlement check to my mortgage company. My motrgage was 130,000. the house was valued a few times at 218,000. The so call by out was 160,000, plus all my personal things, which are antquits. the settlement document is a HUD document. all the so call money went on the clouser. The news paper wrote a story that I lost the house, and the distect atternys off said it was legal. The news paper never wrote the real story. how protects some one like me?
